Too pushy...

I went to a bridal show at Clarington Central Secondary School this afternoon with my mom, aunt, and two cousins.  I couldn't believe how pushy some of the vendors were.  I think this might be one of the last shows I go to.  I say one of the last because the woman working the booth for Val's Bridal told me about the bridal show they have at Tosca on October 26th.  80% off wedding dresses.  I can't say no to that.  Although I really wasn't planning on looking for dresses until the New Year, I will have definitely take a peek at what's on sale and possibly buy a dress if its a good deal.  I'll just get it taken in if I loose a few more pounds.

Hi Stefanie,

As a wedding vendor I have to chime in on this one...from a vendor's perspective it can be difficult to get a bride's attention at a wedding show when there is so much going on at one time. We really try to make an impression and "stand out". When a bride gets home and dumps this big bag of cards, gifts, magazines and whatever else is being given away on the kitchen table it's too easy to get lost in the shuffle. I think this is why some vendors resort to pressure tactics at wedding shows. The competition is fierce and these days there are so many vendors offering the same services at these wedding shows it's unfortunately the bride to be who gets the brunt of it.
A good vendor will stand back and let YOU come to THEM with any questions and not try to give you the "You better book our services now and leave a deposit" or that date may be gone. It's sad but too many vendors prey on your fears, and believe me, I've been doing this long enough to see it in action. Never book anything on the spot, a seasoned vendor will follow up with a phone call or e mail and if you're interested THEN book a consultation. One more thing: my best advice is ALWAYS get at least 3 quotes for a service and don't always jump at the cheapest one. Go with your gut feelings and you'll find vendors that will work within your budget and offer you excellent service. It's our reputation on the line - you can't be in this business and not consistently perform beyond your clients expectations. I apologize for the novella, I think I may write a book on this stuff one day.
