Kiwi kid
It's been a while since I've written here but things have been a little hectic lately. Mostly because my dau
ghter, Sarah, who just completed her MA in public history, moved back home after her summer job in Ottawa and then had two weeks to get ready to leave for a six-month internship in New Zealand. Yep, New Zealand, home of kiwis, the All Blacks, the Lord of the Rings movies and lots of sheep. Things were a bit of a whirl while she was home - getting everything done that she needed to do, shopping for things she needed and even some she didn't, going out to her favourite restaurants, seeing a movie together (Mamma Mia! which we enjoyed) and just being together. I took her to the airport Sept. 11 and saw her off to the other side of the world, to the town of New Plymouth, where they are 16 hours ahead of us. She arrived safely and has put in one day at her new workplace, the Puke Ariki museum. She lives five minutes from work and both her temporary home and the museum are pretty well right on the ocean (Tasman Sea, actually.) I'll miss her but I know she's going to have great adventures, exploring a new country, new community, new history and new aspects of herself. And there's always e-mail and Skype. Anyway, to tie in some entertainment here, one of the things we did before she left was take in Oshawa Little Theatre's fundraiser, How Do You Solve A Problem Like A Leaky Roof. The evening was lots of fun and there was a great crowd there on the Saturday night. I hope OLT raised lots of money for the roof repairs.
