Open, sort of

Well, the Regent Theatre is open. Sort of. Saturday night was the "grand" opening of the restored theatre but it was more of an okay opening, not so grand. When the supporters, the curious, the politicians and the media showed up for the fun, the building wasn't quite ready for prime time. Drywall was still being put up, carpets laid and handrails installed. We waited more than two hours until things got to the point where we could be allowed in. If you looked past the largely unfinished foyer and the incomplete state of the theatre itself, you could see the glimmerings of what the Regent was and what it will be, soon, we hope. The seats were great and I can't imagine there'd be a bad seat in the theatre. The sound and light systems were cool. The concert was great and kudos to the performers for hanging in and performing well past their scheduled times. I'm looking forward to going back and seeing the Regent when the work is completed.
