Plaid play
On Saturday night, I attended Whitby Courthouse Theatre's first play of the season, the musical journey to the 1950s that is Forever Plaid. It was great fun, filled with songs that I grew up on and still enjoy listening to. (When I was 2, my three older sisters taught me to sing Love Me Tender. It's still one of my favourites.) The four guys who play the Plaids are great together and really could be a quartet, they are so smooth. I know it was hard work but they made it look easy and fun. And they got the audience involved too in several places. Lucky for me, Heather Sessions, who's starred in many plays locally, was in the audience Saturday and got picked for a stint on stage or it might have been me who got 'volunteered,' as I learned after the show. Whew! So if you like music from the late 1950s, if you like Perry Como (I do, cardigan and all), if you like laughing and seeing local performers at their best, then head out to see this. www.whitbytheatre.org.
