The locally made Bag to Nature compost bag is the clear, undeniable winner in our compost bag challenge, in which we tested the strength of the Pickering company's product against Glad and Husky brands.
All three compost containers had the same mixture of items, all three compost containers experienced condensation on their lids as the organic matter broke down, and all three accumulated at least 1.5 inches of fluid inside as the rotten fruit turned to mush, but only the container with the Bag to Nature bag was dry on the bottom (with the exception of a few clear drops of condensation).
The Glad bag, which was also the most expensive, was the worst. Its odour guard actually made the stench more obnoxious by adding an aroma of rotten lemon. As soon as it was lifted, something must of given way in the bottom, creating a waterfall of garbage coloured water to add to the puddle which had naturally accumulated while it sat over the last several days.
The Husky bag, the cheapest, didn't rip but had quite a puddle of garbage water.
All in all, it's no contest for me on what to line my compost with, especially in the hot days ahead. The only one I would walk through my kitchen with to the outdoor compost, AND not have to scrub down afterwards, is the Bag to Nature brand. I'm telling you, if your store doesn't carry them, tell it to.

A good comparison but ...
I have to say what I've been saying from the very start to my friends; "Why bag at all?"
I hate buying something I'm only going to use once and then throw away so I try to limit those purchases as much as possible and I've never lined my small kitchen bin or the larger bin outside. I dump my kitchen bin, put a couple tablespoons of bleach in it and after letting it sit for a while give it a quick wash out.
I guess just buying less single use stuff isn't something the more squeamish among us can handle. Nothing works for me and is cheaper too.
