Fill'er Up

I'd rather fill this up than the oil tank in the basement any day!

The new wood shed is going to be a godsend this year.  No more having to trudge out onto the tundra where the huskies go just to start a fire.  Another great idea from my better half.

We've already had several fires in the wood stove and have only used the oil furnace for a total of 3 days so far this year.  I've set a challenge for us to only use one tank of oil this year.   We've got enough wood to do this but we may not have enough time at home to keep the home fires going so to speak.  The wood stove doesn't start itself after all.  We actually have two small Vermont Casting wood stoves in the house and they can keep us toasty through even the coldest winter days.  We only need to run the one in the kitchen if it isn't too cold (around zero) and we'll run both if it is much colder.  We bought these last fall to replace the old Farmer's Stove we had.  They are far more efficient and give off one tenth of the emissions than the old clunker.

A bonus of the wood stove is that you can cook your dinner on it too.  Try that on your furnace!
