Here's another one for the 'Give your head a shake, your eyes are stuck' file. I hadn't realized this, as I live in a very small, very civilized village, but many builders of new subdivisions have, in their buyers contracts. the prohibition of any outdoor clotheslines. Apparently some individuals find the sight of someone elses laundry drying, carbon emission free, in the fresh breeze, abhorrent. Laundry belongs in an energy sucking device called a dryer. Peoples clothes shouldn't smell like the breeze they should stink of 'Bounce'.
This is what we're up against folks. For every informed individual, for every parent who cares about the lungs and health of their children, for every person who wants to make sure there is still a beautiful green and blue planet here for their progeny to play on one thousand years from now, there are several dozen boneheads who are offended by the sight of laundry drying naturally in the wind. Some of them are so offended by it they roll up the tinted windows on their Hummers as they drive by.
Personally I can't get enough of women's underthings, but that's just me. I actually sleep better on sheets that smell of wind and lilac and grass. And I certainly sleep better with a clear conscience knowing I've done at least something to make the air a little cleaner.

I will check that out myself. I inquired to my Council Rep. about what I learned are property convenants. Tribute Homes has not responded to my web form asking about it.
I was copied an email from my Councillor to our Planning Staff.
You can be sure I am not going to Let Ajax be one of these Towns to be clotheline snobs.
One thing to note -- Permanent Structures may be the problem that was addressed by convenants and the wording is not allowing any of them.
I want a T- shirt!

For eleven years, Project Laundry List has fought for the right to dry and pushed people to wash with cold water. We have National Hanging Out Day every April 19th and there are dozens of Canadians involved. David Suzuki, Ph.D., is on our advisory board and the mayor of Aurora just sent a "right to dry" T-shirt to Al Gore. Visit our website at www.laundrylist.org today!

Is this for real? If you buy property you own it. They can suggest maybe or tell you your neighbours won't like you much but if it is not in the municipal by-laws how can they tell you not to have a clothesline.
Condominiums are another story as they are little dictatorships.
Neighbourhood associations I don't think have this power. If they do it needs to be taken away. It has gone too far!

I love seeing clothes drying on someone's line and wish that we could have the same opportunity. Ours is one of those subdivisions that forbids clothes lines, but approves of loud leaf blowers, of lawn mowers, of rumbling harleys and of the beautiful site of fixing one's car in the driveway. Aren't we so sophisticated?
