Put the kayak in Lake Ontario this afternoon down at the foot of Simcoe Street in Oshawa. What a beautiful spot. Would've sworn you were in the Caribbean...huge swath of smooth sand beach, and fantastic surf pounding in. Water was lovely and warm too. I may have been up to my ears in e coli and radiation but who the hell knows. All I know is it was really fun. But you sure couldn't nap at all. Take your mind off of what you were doing for a second and a wave would dump you in a heartbeat. Amazingly empty down there too. Maybe everyone felt summer was over so what's the point. But it was hot and perfect. Can't believe I've not been down there before. Another not so hidden gem I've been overlooking. Free parking directly adjacent to the beach. Fantastic. I'll definitely be back before the real cold weather sets in.

Sure hope you made it back there already, 'cause the Harvest Moon's now past full and it seems like Summer just came to an abrupt halt. (Unless we get an awfully nice chunk of Indian Summer.)

Hey Neil, I was also thinking you could put a cannister of canned fuel into your kayak. That way you could have your kayak and heat it too :-)

'I live 1.5 k from Frenchman's Bay. It has always been my desire to buy a kayak and paddle around the bay. This was the year to do it. However, as I have mentioned, a family emergency and life altering style has changed my plans. Next year I shall buy the kayak and heat it too. :=) A little self indulgence and peaceful meditation on the cool waters. A big wave to you all!
