Sometimes remakes or updates to older venerated and well remembered TV programmes can work and create brand new generations of hooked viewers. Battlestar Galactica and Dr. Who spring to mind. Newer sci-fi and fantasy has also been known to become cult favorites in short order - Firefly comes to mind as well as Torchwood. I have been watching episodes of the original BBC series 'Survivors' and look forward to the new series later this year. Hopefully, the talk of a new version of Blakes 7 will become reality in the not-to-distant future. In addition, the updated version of the memorable cult series 'The Prisoner' will be along in short order - it's in production as we speak. Sometimes remakes work and other times they just make you want to cry. Even the hint of a remake can make you shift uneasily in your seat. A good example of this would be 'The A Team'. The original sure looks dated now and, boy, was it a lot of c**p. Looking at in now is just so painful and I don't think any sort of makeover would help. The perfect case in point is 'Knight Rider', that icon of the early 1980's that became a hit, not only for the car, but the shear fun that was had by all. The weekend I watched, with my son, the premiere episode of the new revamped Knight Rider. Now, how can I put this politely? Oh hell, I can't. It was the biggest piece of bull droppings I have seen in many a year. It didn't even fall into the 'it's so bad it was good' category. The CGI was pathetic, the story was just awful and the acting! Well, I don't want to be rude, but......aaaargh! The car that can transform from a Mustang to a killer car and then a truck! Oh please! The slowest missile in the Universe and the door with another door immediately behind it, the door where you shoot out the lock but can lock it from the other side? I have heard of suspension of disbelief - but this is suspension of any brain function. What's next, Gilligan's island, Tom Corbett, Space cadet? I'd rather watch the original Flash Gordon serials - at least I know what I'm getting.
