Some time ago I posted my opinions of that rather odd time travel/horror film Donnie Darko and what a very clever movie it was. So, when I saw that a form of sequel in the name of S. Darko was announced, I was rather interested. Unfortunately, it was one of the most awful films that I have ever seen - terrible script, poor acting and the most pointless plot (what plot) ever. There really was no redeeming feature anywhere and it had probably the most depressing ending to a movie I have ever seen. What a pity. It seems that there is a real dearth of good time travel, sci-fi or alternative history TV shows or movies out there for the North American audience. At least in the UK they have Ashes to Ashes and Doctor Who to keep things moving along. It's interesting that the time travel trick was used to restart Star Trek along a new path and it may indicate a start of a renewed interest in these under-appreciated genres. I have always wondered why there seems a lack of decent scripts out there considering the many amazing novels and short stories available. There was the ill-fated series 'Masters of Science Fiction' which vanished very quickly into oblivion. It was a good idea but flawed by poor screenplays and seemed to use the most obscure of stories that only the really knowledgeable fans of science fiction would recognize. I still maintain that a mini-series of the Foundation Series would be a great thing to see and would 'kick start' a resurgence of well written TV sci-fi and alternate history shows that would appeal to all viewers.
