It's been reported that actress Helen Hunt frequently writes fan letters
I am in love. Again.
We met online, which worries me abit because of the life expectancy of this type of relationship. The prospect of a long-term romance seems pretty bleak. I know from personal experience, I've been through this before, and things usually fall apart as soon as I write a fan letter.
As I just said, I have some experience with this, uh, infatuation, I suppose, or what one might call passionate affection for an artist's work.
And yeah, I am often one of those freaks who will write (and mail!) fan letters.
But, with the exception of a few top-notch individuals, the recipients rarely write back, not even a little thank you note.
Among the gracious is Mark Harmon who sent me an autographed headshot (which I keep in a special place with my forged 8x10 glossy of Y&R's Brad Carlton, circa 1988), which I already told you about and therefore won't bother with the details, again.
Let's face it, fan letters can get creepy. But I don't write those kind. Or, at least I try not to. By the way, here's a tip: Email is the way to go if you want to contact your loved one(s). Plus, you're more likely to get a response from the object of your artistic affection. For example, Five for Fighting's John Ondrasik sent me a nice email, as did novelist Lisa Moore. Former Toronto Star columnist Linwood Barclay wrote me, too.
Oddly enough, not one who received one of my handmade chapbooks of poetry acknowledged receipt of the thank you gift. (I supppose this falls under the "creepy" categories, even though it the chapbook was short-listed for an award....)
So you wanna know who emailed me? Curt Chandler did. Uncle Kracker did not. Maud Newton did. Jennifer Goonerman did not. Not that I'm keeping score. Catherine Graham did. Shakti Gawain's staff did. Ron James did. A few others did not bother, their busy schedules preventing even a Oprah-esque auto-response.
But believe me when I tell you I'm not hanging onto expectations that Anderson Cooper will spare a few moments in his work day to send me a 'thank you' text for shipping an extraordinarily beautiful (and expensive) birthday gift* to the CNN office. I try not to think about it.
Instead, I think about my newly minted love Commie Girl in the O.C., a collection of blogs by Rebecca Schoennkopf that I am currently reading.
Rebecca wasn't too busy to send me a brief note, despite a pressing deadline. See how she rocks?!
[*I should say, for thinking it. Because the life-sized cardboard cut-out of me didn't make it through customs. In fact, it didn't make it from laughable concept to joyous fruition.]

Hi Kim,
Email addresses? Nope.
And I'm assuming here that you are referring to actors who are famous, or at least well-known.
No one will give out that info.
You can, however, reach their agents by email as long as you know the agent's email address. In Canada, that's fairly simple to find out as most agencies have websites which include hyperlinks of agents' email address.
Some of the large US agencies have links to, but just for general inquiries.
I'd go with the handwritten note and send it by surface/air mail.

How do you find emails for the actresses/actors?
It seems that a LOT of them websites for them are scam sites and the email just goes to the webmaster and never even gets close to going to the actress or actor of desire.
There's a few good ones out there that I've found, don't get me wrong. Some stars have been very cool about getting an online presence set up. But sometimes it's just hard to tell the good from the bad. :(

Linda,
You're in luck! As a matter of fact, I do know. Or, rather, I know how you can find out. Call SAG and/or AFTRA. Ask them for her agent's info. Then send your fan letter to her agent. If her agent doesn't accept gifts/fan letters, call the agency and ask for the name of her PR firm.
Helen Hunt totally rocks, doesn't she?

LOL, thanks ladies! It is misleading huh? I've re-edited the paragraph to clarify. I hope that you're not disappointed.
Come next June, what will you send?
