My Favourite Unread Books

The day before yesterday (when I called in sick and slept most of the day), Miriam Toews new book The Flying Troutmans arrived in the post.

Cover I just love to watch the Canada Post go-cart-like delivery van wheel a u-turn in front of our house because I know it's here for me. I love to watch the uniformed Postie tuck a telltale cardboard package under his arm and deliver it to my door. It's true. Lately, I can't keep up.

After I ran my fingertips over the raised letters and varnished cover, I gently set the book on my nightstand on top of four other books: two non-fiction books, Sylvia Path's The Colossus and Joseph Boyden's beautifully written and compelling novel Three Day Road.

I set the novel down with a sigh and went downstairs to watch television as is my new nightly habit.

Books1Soon I became bored waiting for any one station to pipe something good through the Videon and decided to collect all the books I own and have not yet read, to organize them in some order, or sequence that would prompt me to read them.

Unfortunately, this meant I had to drag my fanny off the couch, leaving CNN to its endless loop of whatever video it was running, to pull books from the bookshelves around the house - my office, bedroom, and the living room.
