A note from writer, producer Barry Pearson

Here's a quote from an article in Inside Toronto by Ann Birch, writer with the WGC, who apparently attended the September 22 presentation for the U of T President's Circle of the filming of Iron Road.

The key part of her comment in the article, (protesting Harper's cuts to arts funding) refers to Gabrielle Roy's question that appears on every $20 bill:

"How can we ever know each other, even in the slightest, without the arts?"

"I thought of its profound truth," Birch says, "when I attended a preview recently of Iron Road, a television mini-series scheduled to appear next year on CBC. It's a story of Chinese workers' contribution to the building of our national railway in the 1880s. With complex characters (including a role for Peter O'Toole), dramatic events, tender love scenes, it's a winner. It helps us understand our past and the heroic sacrifices of 'ordinary people.' "
