Going, going, gone
The retail technology market is getting harder and harder to make a profit from. The collapse of Circuit City is just one more example of how tough the market is and of the deepening bite of the recession - mark my words, soon to be far worse. The loss of another 'big box' electronics store just makes the few remaining companies more dominant and controlling. I understand that Best Buy is very interested in buying up any failed enterprises and increasing it's market share. With the biggest buying season on it's way, things could get quite nasty out there. With fewer companies chasing the money, the chance for the consumer to get a decent bargain is much better - for now. I wonder where you go to buy your electronics and specifically your computer components. Do you stick with the bigger stores and rest happy in the knowledge of their price matching and return policies or do you go with the smaller outlets and go for the cheapest cost? I think that we can see the shopping habits of the techno-geek starting to change and the whole aspect of purchasing electronics beginning to alter. Although it is easy, for instance, to build your own PC from parts, it is no longer a cheaper alternative than purchasing a complete system from someone such as Future Shop. I shall be watching this developing marketplace with interest.
