A fond farewell

Well it's been a fascinating campaign and election night.

I have thoroughly enjoyed it and I have high hopes of being able to recover on the lost sleep in time for the provincial election next fall. It'll be upon us before we know it.

But for now, I want to wish the new council well and let's all enjoy the calm before the next political storm.

It's not over till it's over

Mayor Abernethy is still refusing to comment on the election.

The final results are coming in slowly. At this point with 193 of 222 polling stations counted, Adrian Foster has 6,305 votes, Mayor Abernethy has 5,650, Paul Adams has 5,285 and Jeremy Woodcock won 609 votes.

Mayor Abernethy said he'd comment only after the final numbers are in.

She's in downtown Bowmanville, where the top three mayoral candidates are either in situ or expected.

She files this report:

"Mayoral candidate Paul Adams, who is in a close three way race for the seat, is still unavailable for comment. This Week staff began looking for a comment from Mr. Adams just before the polls closed at 8 p.m. and have so far been unable to locate Mr. Adams or get him on the phone. He’s thought to be either at Maddy’s Pub or the Rickard Centre where votes are being counted."

And it appears Clarington voters like the idea of the Region asking the Province to allow us to elect the Regional chairman; right now, 4,579 have voted yes, 920 have voted no.
