Play On, Local Rabbits
So far K-Os has been excluded from the JUNO honours. He has one category left which airs tonight and he is performing so fingers crossed for the Whitby rapper. Also on the CTV site you can see the Juno hockey match which took place between a team of rockers, Jim Cuddy, Sam Roberts, Chris Murphy of Sloan among them and a team of ex NHLers.
I thought it was quite ironic that the Rheosatics were playing their last gigs on this Juno weekend, yet the Rheos are still stamped on the event.
Take the hockey game, the goalie for the rockers was Boston Bruin Tim Cheveldae who was born in Melville, SASK, and of course the Rheos have an album called Melville and track 4 is Saskatchewan.
The NHL first goal came from Leaf Wendall Clarke and of course the Rheos have the Ballad Of Wendall Clarke Part 1 and 2 on their debut.
The rockers first attempt on goal came from Jason Plumb of the Waltons and he appears on the Rheostatics tribute album Secret Sessions with the Bare Naked Ladies doing Legal Age Life In A Variety Store.
In my next in-paper column I speak of the Rheos as the voice of Canada, when you hear them you hear this country and the hockey game is just one example. I am sure we will hear of them again in separate projects but the Rheos have left the building.
I have to thank the Legendary Horseshoe and Wayne Petti for enabling myself, Po Pelly, Billy Blasko and MaryLynne Stella to witness the Rheos last gig in that hallowed room. It was f**king fantastic. They played all the "hits", covering their twenty odd year career. They played so well and for so long, ending with an unplugged singalong at the merch table.
On the way home we listened to Peter Elkas of the Local Rabbits. He had joined them on stage.

K-Os changed the lyrics a bit while he sang at the Junos! He called the show "propaganda" haha!
