The Great Outdoors

Ddgtgod

The Great Outdoors, who are from B.C I think, announced that they were issuing a series of EPS, four in all, each one written around a single season. They brought us Spring earlier this year but it seems to have taken them some time to get around to Summer. Maybe they were on vacation. There are four tracks here, Summer In The City, Give Everything, Last Day Of Our Vacation and Maybe Time Will Tell.
Here in Oshawa we know a thing or two about summer songs as it was Mars Bonfire of this Motorcity who wrote Born To Be Wild. We've also been pumping up Two Hours Traffic and their easy breezy summer pop classic Little Jabs since it arrived in the promo box. Of course now THT are finals for the Polaris Prize so we're not saying just saying... dig?
So to Summer, well, perhaps summer in BC is different... it seems from this record, dreary and somewhat melancholic... more Young's On The Beach than the Beach Boys. The final track rings of Joel Plaskett and the Last Day song is stoner rock along the lines of Ladyhawk. And given the wet weather and the fleeting summer we've had in 08 the Great Outdoors may have just timed in right after all.

About Will McGuirk

  • Will_McGuirk
    • William McGuirk believes that Canadian music will not feed the world but it will provide moments of digestive relief. Tears are not enough but sometimes that's all we have. That we are not here for a long time so have a good time and support local artists. He has been yelling in the wilderness for 15 years. He needs a home and has been dewormed. He's got 6,000 years of Irish in him so don't believe a word of it.
