It was a historic weekend in Oshawa on Saturday as an alternative music concert in Memorial Park finished right on schedule. Durham Regional Police, City Staff and promoters of the 3Tards final show, all worked together to ensure that the punk rock event clocked right on the buzzer. With a permit that allowed the promoter access to the park during the hours of 1 pm to 8 pm the show, which also featured Caution Inc and the Groopies, ended at three minutes past eight o clock.
The crowd estimated between 100 and 300, just under the projected numbers of 1,000 to 3,000, continued to exhibit the good cheer and fun displayed throughout the day by heeding the promoter's call to avoid rioting. There was a fear that the 3Tards popularity would be such that the audience would demand a full set from the band but their permit shortened set which saw the lead singer, a bald headed man with a foot long goatee dressed up as Wonder Woman, seemed just enough for those in attendence.
The myth of punks as troublemakers was debunked as the crowd, who had waited in the all day rain for the bands, chose to co-operate fully with the authorities and disperse peacefully from the public park located in Oshawa's downtown.
The concert which was the 3Tards farewell show was billed as a fundraiser for Breast Cancer Research. As of deadline the final tally of funds raised was zero.
Yet another landmark in the acceptance of punk into the mainstream was reached on Saturday as punk-a-billy four piece Lead Sled Rocket emerged as winners in the 16th Bandwarz finals held at the Groove Lounge.

No wonder you're so depressed. I would be too if I had to be you.
I feel sorry for you.

I think the city is BANG on letting the 3Tards finish off the Canada Day celebrations w/ a live performance aboard the fireworks barge. Those rascals at city hall really know how to cover all the bases and make people HAPPY!

This article and the comments that followed made me laugh out loud. Thank you, laughter keeps us feeling young. I wonder what the next attention grab will be. Who's pocket did the "donations" fall into? I hear there's an amazing show planned for july 2nd at the band shell, http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=79959396784&ref=ts maybe the organizers from the weekends "benefit" should attend and see how a real concert is run. Also do not call police officers nazi's and please don't wave around your rights to freedom of speech, because honestly I very much doubt you've been to a country where Rights and Freedoms are ignored, because to be honest you wouldn't last a second in a country like that, and if the police officers were "nazis" I'm pretty sure you'd be in a concentration camp, dead, or in jail. Grow up. Well written Will.

Being a citizen of Oshawa made me judge and jury buck-o.
As for your two police officers working with “the main security guard”, that’s a whole lotta BULL, and you know it. There was no “main security guard” there was ONE. Who, I’m pretty sure was caught rolling a joint in the band shell. And the “way to be alert” award goes to the yellow coat wonder!!!
Plenty of people in the background? Maning the highschool kids volunteering, because you’re absolutely right, they would have had it all under control!!?? In fact, I’m sure if they were in charge it still would have been better. Or am I missing the secret SWAT team hiding in the back of the bandshell with the other pamphlets of awareness. That’s awesome, real accessible to the public back there. Maybe the marital tag team of two has secret kung-fu powers that the rest of the public are simply not aware of. I can see it now, The Tag Team Maritals and The Yellow Coat Wonder Save The Day at Local Punk Show….oops Cancer Benefit.
As for the goal reached, was this the same goal that stated 3000 people were going to be there and 1 million dollars be raised. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA please, my sides are splitting. You’d probably get more funds raised if you E-Bay’d Tamara’s knickers. I’d bid at least my 2 cents for them. Good luck with that! I’m pretty sure the entire day’s festivities didn’t max over 120 people in attendance. “Wooo hardcore support man!”
The road is always paved with goof….I mean good intentions.

lmao - nice one Tam ;)
Touche
The rain was part of the fun that day you arseholes, I'm glad the show still went ahead. Only a pu*sy is gonna stay home cuz it's raining. As for security, trust me - there were plenty of people in the background that didn't NEED to be so obvious because there was no NEED for it, ME being one of them, as well as 2 police officers who were working with the main security guard.
The show was delayed due to sound problems - something I've seen happen quite often - certainly not unheard of. The show would have run over for a maximum of 30 minutes had it been allowed to continue - yeah - that sure is the end of the world...
As far as raising money for breast cancer - trust me - the intentions were sincerely there and this was promoted THROUGHOUT the show. Pamphlets from the breast cancer foundation were available at the main kiosk in the band shelter - I can have one sent to whoever would like a copy since I grabbed a few for myself and family - some very valuable information. You are right - there was not a lot of money raised - a shame - but the BEST efforts were made by all and will continue to be made until the goal is reached.
With just a little bit of goodwill from the city workers and durham police officers - this show would have been an absolute success - as it is, I had an AWESOME time that day - even though the show was cut short. And judging by the smiles and shouts from the crowd - I'd say many other people would agree with me.
Who made you judge and jury anyway?
Asshole.

I am glad to see that Miss Morahan is still expressing her classless virtues upon us. To be frank the lack of manners, couth and ability to express one's self without using profanity and/or childish remarks is getting old.
Let's start acting like an adult and show some tact.
Perhaps the next concert you promote should be a benefit for finishing school classes for potty mouthed wannabes.

The stage I was referring to McGuirk, you a$$hole, is your blog.
And, like the shirt you still owe me $5 for, will be here for much longer than 15 minutes.
I am a citizen of Oshawa, and that stage was mine to be had. You're all just pissy I got my hands on it in the first place. If any of you had balls, you'd have already spoken at City Hall about this issue and made some progress. As far as I'm concerned, I'm sitting at the table, and you're not.
So nanny nanny shut the f*%k up.

Let’s get down to the facts, shall we?
Where was the representative from the breast cancer foundation? In all my years working within charities and planning events such as this, there is always a representative on hand. If this was a legit cancer fundraiser, and not a front for a party, shouldn’t there be documentation between the “promoter(s)” and the breast cancer society? Anything remotely connected to the breast cancer foundation is covered with merchandise and product placement of the pink ribbon etc. There was none at this event.
Secondly, was this concert based on a not-for-profit organization? What does Anterock get out of doing a show like this? Are the financials public knowledge? How much was actually raised?
Whose bright idea was it to have absolutely zero security? Would it have not been common sense to have a couple of paid-duty police officers on hand? Helllo? It is a punk show! No weather back-up plan?? Tarps? Tents?
Congrats to the bands that played, they sounded awesome!!!! It was great for them to come out and give their time as they did. THAT is the message from this whole DISASTER, that’s your story. The typical reputation of “punk rock degenerates” is for once NOT the focus. All the bands were hard working ladies and gents who dedicated their time towards a cause. Don’t point the finger at the punk rock culture, or the weather, the City, or the police, stand up and take the blame “promoter (s)”, you can only point the “PR SPIN” finger for so long.

not my stage...Toots...its belongs to the folks of Oshawa...
and i'm not giving you 15 secs or 15 mins...thats all your doing and like I said you do it well.
it will be a pity if the City decides to crack down on those of us who can put on a show on time and with all contingencies covered. We shall see if you have managed to stiff the "stooges" as the mayor calls them.
but if they do we'll just have the shwaltz someplace else.
ps congrats on getting MP Colin Carrie onside...he's never been to any of my crew's gigs. do you have him on video too?
best of luck with the film Friday.
